The steady downpour of rain that has covered the Auburn area throughout Friday has forced the Tigers to push back Friday night’s softball and baseball openers against Alabama and Ole Miss, respectively.
Baseball, which was originally slated to open at 6 p.m. at Plainsman Park, and softball, which was supposed to begin at 7:30 p.m., are now both expected to toss their first pitches at a little after 8 p.m.
And the thunderstorms predicted for Saturday night could alter things even more.
Baseball has already changed its Saturday and Sunday games into a Saturday doubleheader beginning at noon. Softball hasn’t made the same decision yet, but with thunderstorms in the forecast, there’s a chance Alabama and Auburn move their top-10 matchup to a doubleheader on Saturday, too.
The weather will likely hurt crowds at both sports. Auburn is scheduled to hold its A-Day spring football scrimmage at 1 p.m., and fans will likely leave there and head for the second games of both, if softball does make a change.
