Richard Linklater’s new film is about college baseball, sort of – CBSSports.com

Accomplished director Richard Linklater, known for such films as “Dazed and Confused,” “Before Sunrise,” “School of Rock,” and “Boyhood,” has a new movie coming out in April of 2016. Said new movie is titled “Everybody Wants Some,” and it’s in some ways a spiritual sequel to the aforementioned “Dazed and Confused,” which is rightly regarded as a modern classic.

As you’ll observe in the following trailer, college baseball provides the backdrop for “Everybody Wants Some” …

Youth and young manhood! The 1980s! Touches of the bildungsroman! But mostly: Baseball! Yes, it’s baseball as a construct to get at more prevailing and universal themes, but that’s how it goes with story devices.

It is this writer’s opinion that most movies at least nominally about baseball are not very good. Perhaps this will be the rare exception. Color me optimistic.
