↑Charlotte Country Day baseball: No. 5 seed Bucs (19-12) beat No. 4 Charlotte Christian (23-12) 5-4 to advance to next week’s semifinals against Wesleyan Christian or Wake Christian.
↑Lake Norman Charter baseball: beat R-S Central 2-1 to advance to third round of the N.C. High School Athletic Association playoffs for the third straight season.

Friday’s High School Heroes
Casey Thomsen, Olivia Clements, Emma Matthews, Charlotte Latin girls’ lacrosse: In 15-5 N.C. Independent Schools playoff win against Cape Fear, Tomsen had four goals and Clements and Matthews three each.
Seraiah Dunham, Mallard Creek girls’ soccer: scored winning goal in a 3-2 sudden-death overtime win against 4A power Skyland Roberson, which was seeded No. 3. No. 14 seed Mallard Creek was 2-8 all-time in postseason play before this season but will advance to next week’s third round against Greensboro Page or Charlotte Catholic. Mallard Creek’s Kyla Moncrief had two goals.
Carrie Eberle, Charlotte Catholic softball: improved to 23-1 as a pitcher with 11-1 win against Hopewell in the second round of the 4A playoffs. Eberle had seven strikeouts to reach 202 for the season and 603 for her career. She was 2-for-3 from the plate with two doubles and four RBIs. Teammates Paige Rivas and Suzie Borda also had two hits each. Catholic is 26-1.
Anthony Fucci, Mooresville baseball: 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in the 6-2 upset of Hough. Mooresville scored five runs in the final two innings to drop Hough to 22-6. Cole Maye had a homer and was 2-for-3 for the Huskies.
Connor Holleran, Christ The King golf: senior committed to play at Denison (Ohio) University.
Rea Syska, Hickory Grove girls’ soccer: set school records for goals (29) and assists (15) in a season. Led her team to a school-record in team goals (82) and team assists (52).
N.C. Individual Tennis Finals
Several Observer-area players advanced to Saturday’s final rounds, which will begin at 9 a.m.
1A: Pine Lake Prep’s Max Vicario will face Elkin’s Ryan Macy in the final at Middle Creek Park in Raleigh.
2A: Salisbury’s Spencer Story and David Derrick are in the doubles semifinals.
3A: Marvin Ridge’s George Lovitt and Forestview’s Charlie Schuls advanced to the singles semifinals. Two area doubles teams advanced to semifinals: Marvin Ridge’s John Hatala and Avanish Madhavaram and Weddington’s William Hatt and Nicholas Ulehla.
4A: Charlotte Catholic’s Grant Stuckey and Lake Norman’s Ryan Jurist advanced to singles semifinals.
