Southwest Side baseball team nearing championship – WGN-TV

CHICAGO — Sure Chicago’s ball players in blue have gained national attention this season — but on the Southwest Side, these other boys in blue are the talk of the town.

The Clear Ridge baseball team is playing in Bangor, Maine, right now, just three wins away from a senior league World Series title.

A perfect 16-0 in its regular season, Clear Ridge is representing all of the US central region in this double elimination tournament. With two wins under its belt, Clear Ridge could be the first Illinois team to win this title.

Twenty-two young men from the Southwest Side make up the team’s roster. About half of them have been playing together in the area since about 7 years old. Now they are 13-16 years old.

And with an entire community rallying behind them right now, a winning end might be in their future.
