‘Technical error’ stops gay choir singing US anthem at baseball game – Telegraph.co.uk
A “technical error” prevented the San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus from performing the US anthem at a baseball game on Sunday after a recording was played instead.
The group had been invited to perform at the game in an effort by baseball organisers to improve the sport’s outreach to San Diego’s LGBT community.
As they assembled at the Petco stadium for the San Diego Padres and LA Dodgers game, they were suddenly replaced at the last minute by a recording of a female singer.
This footage shows the 100-man choir forced to stand in place as the recording plays.
Billy Bean, Major League Baseball’s vice president of social responsibility and inclusion, called the incident a “technical error”.
The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus has since used Facebook to issue a formal statement and to call for an investigation.
