Listen, we know it’s tough to catch up on everything happening in the baseball world each morning. There are all kinds of stories, rumors, game coverage and Vines of dudes getting hit in the beans every day. Trying to find all of it while on your way to work or sitting at your desk just isn’t easy. It’s okay, though, we’re going to do the heavy lifting for you each morning, and find the things you need to see from within the SB Nation baseball network, as well as from elsewhere. Please hold your applause until the end, or at least until after you subscribe to the newsletter.

Tired of hearing about Tim Tebow? Well, sorry about that, but he’s in the news now and might continue to be if it turns out he’s still any good at baseball. His workout is Tuesday in Los Angeles, and while all 30 teams were invited, 30 teams will not be in attendance. However, half the league and maybe more will be there to see him show off his skills, and at least one team is even sending a number of scouts. Whether Tebow ends up with a contract from a major-league team or not, he has some offers out there to consider: an independent league team has sent him a contract, as has a winter league team in Venezuela.
Winter ball is an intriguing thing, as those teams cut MLB players if they aren’t pulling their weight: They want to win, as this isn’t just some developmental thing where MLB teams are giving their players some more reps. Would Tebow even survive a season in a league like that? At the least, it would be a good challenge for him, and if he manages to stick around for an entire winter season, it might give him another chance at joining the minor-league team of an MLB club next spring. That’s if he remains unsigned after his workout, of course.
As we’ve discussed before, Tebow’s chances of making it even in the minors are slim. He has little to lose, though, given he was already out of professional sports, and no one expects him to succeed, anyway. After Tuesday, his chances will be slightly less hypothetical, as we’ll finally hear what he looks like as a baseball player from someone besides those paid to help him along in his dream. Maybe there is some skill left to mine there, or maybe Tebow should have made this call to baseball back in high school when he was still playing ball on the reg. Regardless of the outcome, we’ll be a little closer to it by this time tomorrow.
- Andrew Miller is knee-bucklingly good at baseball.
- The Braves lead the race for the first overall pick in 2017. Go Braves! Or don’t go, Braves? Whichever is appropriate here.
- The AL East is a reminder that predictions are pretty pointless, as even though the divisional order makes sense, how it got to be that way is a mess.
- Patrick Dubuque attempted to define the Marlins and how they got to where they are now.
- The Marlins are going to sign Tebow, aren’t they?
- Should the Yankees regret selling at the deadline, given how well their August went?
- Ned Yost might actually be the manager of the year in the AL. Well, if the Royals can keep on winning, anyway.
- The Angels are in baseball purgatory, as their system is a mess and so is the big-league roster, and the resources to fix either problem just aren’t there.
- Corey Seager was hit on the wrist by a pitch, but X-rays were negative on the slugging rookie.
- The Orioles want to make waiver deals in August, but the Yankees have waiver priority and have been aggressive in claiming anyone who could be useful.
- Baseball has a RedZone-type channel, and Ben Lindbergh would like to tell you about it.
