Of course, that’s Pete Rose, who will never be allowed election into the hall. Rose famously denied his involvement in betting on baseball for decades before coming forward with his admission in a book in 2004.
On this day in 1989, then-MLB commissioner Bart Giamatti handed Rose permanent placement on the league’s ineligible list. Effectively, the all-time hits leader is banned from participating in the MLB, or getting inducted into its Hall of Fame, ever again.
Rose is one of baseball’s most maligned personalities ever, for his time both on the field and since his departure from the game.
