Carrasco, who will turn 29 before the season begins, was among the many pitchers to turn out breakout seasons in 2015. He went 14-12 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.073 WHIP and 216 strikeouts. While his 3.63 ERA is on the high side, his 2.84 FIP, which measures a pitcher’s effectiveness at preventing HRs, BBs and HBPs and causing strikeouts, suggests that’s an inflated number, as does his 2.55 ERA in 14 starts in 2014.
