UM 4, Bradley 3: Baseball gets big win in NCAA Regional – Detroit Free Press
UPDATE: Michigan loses to Louisville, 13-4; season over
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With its season suddenly hanging in the balance, the Michigan baseball team put the pieces together to see at least one more game.
After losing to No. 3 Louisville Saturday night to snap their six-game winning streak, the Wolverines responded less than 24 hours later, manufacturing runs and beating Bradley, 4-3.
Seven Wolverines got hits in the game, with junior second baseman Jacob Cronenworth and senior centerfielder Jackson Glines garnering two apiece. Senior leftfielder Kevin White scored twice.
On the mound, junior left-hander Evan Hill turned in Michigan’s third quality start in as many days, allowing just one earned run on seven hits and striking out six in 6 2/3 innings.
The Wolverines (39-24) took down the Braves (36-21) just two days earlier, but today proved to be a different ballgame from Friday’s 10-5 shootout.
Instead of using long innings and extra-base hits to tack on runs, U-M used bits and pieces to get the job done. The Wolverines used three straight singles in the first to score Glines, and two sacrifices and a steal to score White in the following inning.
Though only totaling nine hits in the game, Michigan plated a run in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. Bradley finally got to Hill in the fifth, capitalizing on the pitcher’s second fielding error of the game and driving in the run.
The Braves chased Hill the seventh with another run, and the Wolverines — who have allowed nine of their 11 runs in the final three innings this weekend — survived a ninth inning rally led by a home run to win their seventh game in eight tries.
