Blackhawks to host ‘Hockey is for Everyone’ night on Saturday … – Chicago Tribune
In conjunction with a new NHL campaign highlighting diversity across hockey, the Blackhawks will hold a “Hockey is for Everyone” night on Saturday when they take on the Oilers at the United Center.
As part of the campaign, the Hawks will use “pride tape” on their sticks during warmups in support of the LGBTQ community with the sticks being auctioned off at NHL.com.
The Hawks will also host groups from various LGBTQ organizations such as the You Can Play Project, the Chicago Gay Hockey Association and the Center on Halsted.
Other events the Hawks have planned for the NHL’s “Hockey is for Everyone” campaign include former Hawk Ben Eager hosting a floor hockey clinic at the Center on Halsted on Wednesday.
And on March 2, the Hawks will hold a screening of “Soul on Ice: Past, Present and Future” at the Harper Theater in Hyde Park. Former Hawk Jamal Mayers and the film’s director and writer Kwame Damon Mason will hold a discussion for students. The film tells the story of the contributions of black players throughout hockey’s history.
