Brazil soccer legend: Your life is at risk if you come to Brazil for Olympics – CBSSports.com

Brazilian soccer legend Rivaldo has warned tourists, advising them to skip the Rio 2016 Olympics due to concerns of violence, according to the Associated Press.

The former Barcelona star, who won the 2002 World Cup with Brazil, fears for tourists after a 17-year-old woman was killed on Saturday in Rio in a shootout.

On Instagram, according to the AP, Rivaldo wrote, “Things are getting uglier here every day. I advise everyone with plans to visit Brazil for the Olympics in Rio — to stay home. You’ll be putting your life at risk here. This is without even speaking about the state of public hospitals and all the Brazilian political mess. Only God can change the situation in our Brazil.”

In January, Forbes called Brazil the “murder capital of the world,” citing a report from the Center for Public Security and Criminal Justice which shows that “no country in the world has more cities plagued by violent crime than Brazil.”

Among other issues the nation is dealing with are water pollution and the Zika virus.
