Buttigieg on Trump’s Alfred E. Neuman nickname: ‘I had to Google that’ – Washington Examiner
Democratic 2020 hopeful Pete Buttigieg said President Trump’s nickname for him dated the commander in chief.
Trump, who is known for giving his opponents nicknames, referred to the South Bend, Ind., mayor as “Alfred E. Neuman” in an interview Friday.
“Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States,” the president told Politico, referring to the fictitious character who graced the cover of Mad magazine for decades.
Buttigieg, 37, said he was too young to understand the reference.
“I’ll be honest. I had to Google that. I guess it’s a generational thing. I didn’t get the reference. It’s kinda funny, I guess. But he’s also the president of the United States and I’m surprised he’s not spending more time trying to salvage this China deal,” Buttigieg told reporters Friday.
The president also unveiled a new nickname for former Vice President Joe Biden on Friday, calling his potential 2020 rival “SleepyCreepy Joe” in reference to Biden’s unwanted touching.
