Congress will get the Mueller report on CDs – Washington Examiner

Special counsel Robert Mueller’s long-awaited report will be delivered to Congress today on a CD, leaving congressional staffers scrambling to make sure they have the hardware necessary to read it.

A Justice Department official confirmed to the Associated Press that the report will be sent to Capitol Hill on CD between 11 a.m. and noon as the nearly two-year wait for the report on Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible collusion by the Trump campaign comes to a close today.

Many newer government computers, particularly Apple’s Mac line, no longer have the optical drives necessary to read CDs. Most information is shared among staffers and from office to office through secure cloud networks, email attachments, or USB drives.

“Luckily the Judiciary Committee primarily uses Microsoft computers. There shouldn’t be any problem,” a House Judiciary Committee aide told the Washington Examiner in a text message.

The same redacted version will be made available to the public after it’s delivered to Congress. The Justice Department said that it will later allow a “limited number” of congressional leaders and staff access to a copy with fewer redactions.
