Pittsburgh may be one win away from winning the Stanley Cup this season, but it’s not the best hockey city in America.

That’s still Detroit.

The latest study from WalletHub has determined that Detroit is the best city for hockey fans in 2016, with Boston, Pittsburgh, New York and Chicago trailing just behind. Though both NHL and college hockey are factored into the study, the pros outweigh the college ranks here, and Detroit ranks No. 1 in that regard (56th for college).

As we all know, Detroit is home to the NHL’s Red Wings, who have won four Stanley Cups since 1997 (for comparison’s sake, the Pittsburgh Penguins only have one in that span). And though it’s been eight years since the last Cup win, the Wings are virtually allergic to missing the postseason; they haven’t been left out of the playoffs in 25 years.

They don’t call it “Hockeytown” for nothing.

WalletHub explains its study: “We ranked 72 of the largest cities using a total of 17 key metrics that range from ticket prices to stadium capacity to the performance level of each city’s teams.” Other factors include fan engagement, franchise value, popularity index and Stanley Cup wins.

Three other Michigan cities reached the Top 30, too, thanks to high ranking on the college side. Ann Arbor, home of U-M hockey, ranks 23rd, followed by Houghton (Michigan Tech) at 25th and Big Rapids (Ferris State) at 26th. East Lansing (Michigan State) ranks 33rd.

Ann Arbor, Houghton and Big Rapids are the Top 3 cities in America in highest college hockey fan engagement, too.
