Former NASCAR driver Dave Blaney, 53, was involved in a sprint car crash during qualifying for the World of Outlaws #LetsRaceTwo at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, Friday night. He has since been released from hospital with no reported injuries. His team reports that Blaney is very sore and that they are en route to the team’s headquarters in Charlotte, N.C. Blaney will not race at Eldora Saturday night.
Blaney was fourth fastest when he hit the wall in turns 1 and 2 on his second qualifying lap. His Motter Equipment Mohawk Northeast Beltline Body Shop No. 71M car was then sent into a series of flips, and he had to be extracted from the car by the track’s safety crew before being transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
Blaney underwent a CT scan overnight that revealed no breaks or fractures and, though he was sore, he was able to sit up. He was later released from the hospital.
“I know Dave joins in thanking all the fans, friends, and media for the tremendous outpouring of love tonight,” said team owner Dan Motter, who accompanied Blaney in the ambulance. “It was a scary crash. We want to thank the track safety crew for taking care to extricate him from the car. We are very grateful to all.”
