Drama, drama, drama.

The Calgary Flames were on quite the roller-coaster ride Tuesday night when they welcomed the Anaheim Ducks into the Saddledome. Down 2-0 in the second-round playoff series, the Flames desperately needed a win lest the Ducks take too commanding a lead.

At the 13:23 mark of the third period, trailing Anaheim 3-2, Calgary seemed to tie things up when, after a second look, forward Sam Bennett’s shot appeared to cross the goal line before Ducks netminder Frederik Andersen kicked it away.

After talking at length to the honchos at head office in Toronto, the referees announced the original no-goal call would stand, and the score would remain 3-2 Ducks.

Needless to say, people weren’t happy. Least of all the Flames.

So they did what any desperate team would do, and called upon arguably their best player to step up.

And boy, did rookie Johnny Gaudreau ever do THAT.

With 19.5 seconds left in the period, the man known as Johnny Hockey rifled a one-timer right past Andersen’s head that lit the lamp and sent the game to OT.

It ain’t over ’til it’s over, kids.

Because then Mikael Backlund went on to score at the 4:24 mark of overtime, giving Calgary a 4-3 victory.

Game 4 is Friday. Be there.
