JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (May 26, 2015) – A Franklin man was arrested Sunday evening after choking his fiancée in a dispute over whether NASCAR or IndyCar is better.

Police responded to an incomplete 911 call from an address in the 2500 block of South U.S. 31 in Franklin around 7:45 p.m.

A woman at the residence told officers that she was the one who called 911. She told police that she had been drinking with her fiancé David Wilson all day. David was in the kitchen making dinner while she was listening to the Indianapolis500 in the living room.

She stated that David started rambling on about NASCAR being better than Indy Car and walked into the living room, approached her, and choked her.

She tried to call 911, but David shouted at her “Who are you calling?” and then took the phone away from her. David told 911 dispatchers, “everything is fine here,” and then he hung up. Police checked the woman for signs of strangulation, but they didn’t find any.

Police then asked David for his side of the story. David said he heard his fiancée talking trash about NASCAR so he went into the living room to confront her, but he said he never choked her. David also told police he was upset that no one would help him with then household chores.

Police arrested David Wilson, 57, on allegations of domestic battery and strangulation.
