Hockey Game Ends Early After Linesman Ruins Ice

Friday night’s QMJHL game between the Baie-Comeau Drakkar and Charlottetown Islanders concluded prematurely after an issue with the ice. The damage wasn’t actually that serious, until the officials stepped in to deal with it.

One linesman originally used scissors to cut a protruding piece of the logo, but another linesman just started pulling at the whole logo and tore up a sizable piece of the playing surface. It’s unclear as to what he hoped to accomplish with this approach:

The man in charge of maintaining the ice at the Islanders’ rink made a visit, and was not happy. The original hole would have been tough to fix quickly, but the new hole was impossible.

The Islanders kept their fans apprised of the situation:

Within the hour, the game was called, and the QMJHL gave the win to the Islanders, who were leading, 5-2.

The club’s recap attributed the early finish to “a problem with the ice,” which is more diplomatic than “some doofus ruined everything.”
