Oct. 21, 1942: Born in Providence, R.I.

1963: Graduates Providence College after being captain of hockey and baseball teams. Becomes an assistant coach for both hockey and baseball.

1968: Named head coach of Providence hockey team.

1982: Named Providence athletic director.

1983: Instrumental in formation of Hockey East; Lamoriello Trophy for conference champion established in 1988.

April 30, 1987: Named Devils president; succeeds Max McNab as general manager prior to the start of training camp. Devils reach the playoffs in 1987-88 for the first time since moving to New Jersey from Colorado.

June 16, 1990: Drafts goalie Martin Brodeur 20th overall.

1992: Honored with Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the U.S.

June 24, 1995: Devils win first of three Stanley Cups, sweeping the Detroit Red Wings.

Sept. 14, 1996: Team USA, with Lamoriello as GM, wins World Cup of Hockey.

June 10, 2000: Devils win second Cup in six games over the Dallas Stars; Lamoriello had fired coach Robbie Ftorek with three games remaining in regular season in favor of Larry Robinson.

June 9, 2001: Devils lose to Colorado Avalanche in Game 7 of Stanley Cup Final.

June 9, 2003: Devils beat Anaheim Ducks in Game 7 to win third Stanley Cup.

Dec. 19, 2005: Becomes interim coach after Robinson resigns.

April 2, 2007: Fires Claude Julien and becomes interim coach.

Nov. 9, 2009: Inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame in builders category.

June 11, 2012: Devils lose Stanley Cup Final in six games to Los Angeles Kings.

July 12, 2012: Inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.

Dec. 27, 2014: Replaces fired coach Pete DeBoer on an interim basis along with Scott Stevens and Adam Oates.

May 4, 2015: Resigns as Devils GM, remains team president.
