TROY, Mich. – The mother of an 18-year-old hockey player got into a fight with a referee Saturday morning after her son was checked into the boards at the Troy Sports Center.
Troy police said the 47-year-old mother went to check on her son during the game’s second intermission to see if he was OK. The two were in a restricted area near the hockey officials’ locker room.
When the officials exited the locker room and began to get back onto the ice, one of them told the mom she needed to leave. An argument ensued and the mother ended up walking onto the ice, police said.
What happened next is disputed by the parties involved, but police said “all three parties” were involved in a fight. Players had to intervene.
Now everyone is pointing the blame. Police said the three parties involved all are claiming to be the victim and all of them wish to file assault and battery charges against each other.
No arrests were made.
The mother and her son are from Coraopolis, Penn., which is about 15 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
