Hot-selling Mueller swag must now vie with ‘No Collusion’ gear – Washington Examiner
Special counsel Robert Mueller managed to attract a cult-like following over the past two years among Americans eager to see President Trump’s downfall.
Despite remaining largely silent during his investigation into possible Russian collusion by the president, Mueller became a hero among many members of the Trump #Resistance, who desperately hoped the special counsel would find enough evidence to make a case for impeachment.
But it might be time for liberals to toss their “ It’s Mueller Time” T-shirts.
Attorney General William Barr revealed Sunday that Mueller found no collusion between Trump and the Russians, though Mueller did not make a determination on whether Trump committed obstruction of justice, but explicitly stated in a letter to Barr that his report “does not exonerate” the president.
That small detail has not stopped Trump supporters from gleefully celebrating the conclusion of the Mueller probe. Now, the fad in Trump-related merch seems to be “ No Collusion” T-shirts, which have cropped up all over the web since Sunday’s revelation.
“No Collusion? Ouch, sorry Fake News,” one shirt reads, with a large red “X” over a picture of a donkey.
Another design looks ahead toward the 2020 presidential election: “No Collusion with Russia! Trump 2020: Make Liberals Cry Again.”
For those who appreciate rhymes, there’s this one: “No Collusion. Just a liberal delusion.”
And for basketball fans, this timely shirt mimics the NCAA March Madness logo with the slogan, “Mueller Madness: Who got it most wrong?”
The Examiner spoke with Bryan from Wilmington, N.C., who sells a gray “No Collusion Bitches” tee on Etsy.
Bryan, who owns a small screen-printing company, said he tries to capitalize on every major political event and does not take sides.
“I’m a capitalist,” he said. “I have a pro-liberal Etsy page and a pro-conservative Etsy page, and I’m just letting them battle it out. Everybody’s money is green.”
Team Trump is getting in on the action, too, with limited-edition T-shirts, hats, mugs, and drink koozies for sale on the official Trump website.
The new merchandise features pictures of Trump tweets, one of which reads, “No Collusion, No Obstruction, Complete and Total EXONERATION, KEEP AMERICA GREAT!”
The other is slightly more understated, with just two words: “WITCH HUNT!”
Trump campaign Director of Communications Tim Murtaugh said the campaign has received a “very strong” response.
“Now that the vile hoax has been exposed, which we always knew would happen, people are invigorated and want to show their support for President Trump,” Murtaugh said.
Not all pro-Mueller vendors are ready to give up, though. Julia Adams, who sells a pint glass on Etsy with the phrase, “It’s Mueller Time,” noted that the report has not yet been released.
“We’ll see what happens once we all know what is in the report,” Adams told the Examiner. “Typically sales come in over the weekend and I did have a surge in sales last weekend.”
Adams said she has had fun connecting with people from nearly every state over the past year.
“I’m happy to know our glass is in many homes and ready to toast future indictments from Mueller referrals,” she said.
Clare Winter, who sells Mueller-themed devotional candles, said she was surprised by an increase in orders following the Mueller report news.
“I do not think the four-page Barr summary has satiated the country’s curiosity with the Mueller report,” Winter told the Examiner. “Whether it’s a backlash of conservative interest or ripples of democratic activism to come, I’ve had an uptick in visitors to my site and orders.”
