The impending arrival of Hurricane Hermine has already caused the cancellation of all Friday track activity at Darlington Raceway, NASCAR announced Thursday afternoon.
The good news is that Sunday looks like a picture-perfect, chamber of commerce-type day in Darlington, S.C., where the high temperature for the Bojangles’ Southern 500 is expected to be 85 degrees and the chance of rain is only 10 percent.
And Saturday’s forecast is good, too, which means NASCAR Sprint Cup Series qualifying scheduled for 1:45 p.m. ET, should be right on time, as should the 3:30 p.m. start to the VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero NASCAR XFINITY Series race.
Friday, however, is another matter.
Weather.com predicts that from 8 a.m. Friday until midnight, the chance of rain at Darlington never drops below 85 percent at any point in the day and night, and is at 100 percent from 3-10 p.m. That could mean 4 to 7 inches of rain on Friday when the storm blows through, bringing with it high winds.
But at least the storm is forecast clear out of South Carolina in plenty of time for the XFINITY and Sprint Cup races to take place as scheduled.
