Judo champion Natalie Powell on the Olympics, Zika – and why she loves a cheeky kebab – Telegraph.co.uk
Studying has always been high on my list. I got my degree from Cardiff University in bioscience. Halfway through it I decided I wanted to focus on judo more,’ says Powell, whose parents are the ‘most influential people’ in her career, outside coach Darren Warner.
‘My mum would take me anywhere. She was touring the country most weekends. ‘I always wanted to be a doctor when I was younger. But my interest in the sport developed, and doing both just wasn’t possible. In the end judo took over and I’m not sure what I’ll do with my bioscience degree now, but at least I’ve got it to fall back on,’ says Powell, who lives and trains in Cardiff.
