If you have been to a youth hockey game, it’s hard to miss them. Hockey moms are a breed apart.
Some scream while their player shoots and scores, and others cower and cringe as their goalie is pummeled with a barrage of pucks. Those Minnesota hockey moms now have a chance at stardom.
Local producer John McCally with McCally-Lee Entertainment wants to find interesting, dramatic and fun youth or high school hockey moms and their families to star in a new reality TV show called “Hockey Moms.”
“We are looking for colorful characters,” McCally said. “They have to translate to TV and [have] interesting, dramatic story lines for the show.
McCally initially put out a casting call for the series in the spring of 2014. Four hundred hockey moms answered the call and applied. He found some top finalists, but at that time the show didn’t have a home. Now it does. Hubbard Broadcasting’s KSTC-45 in the Twin Cities and KAAL-TV in Rochester/Albert Lea/Austin will air “Hockey Moms” starting the day after Christmas. The series finale will be right before the 2016 Minnesota boys high school hockey tournament Class AA championship.
“The show works well with the 45TV brand of high school sports.”said Susan Wenz, KSTC-TV45 Station Manager. “It’s a win-win in so many ways.”
With the announcement of this TV partnership, McCally decided to put out a new casting call, but said past applicants can resubmit their entries.
“We are really looking for hockey moms who are dedicated to their kids and the sport of hockey, “ McCally said. “My vision for this as show creator is taking a look at this from a documentary style. They are going to be [shown] not just at the hockey rink … [but at] home, driving kids to tournaments and also juggling other aspects of life so their kids can play hockey.”
Hockey moms can go to www.hockeymom.tv and find an online submission tab. The deadline is Sept. 9. Shooting begins this fall during hockey tryouts.
