NASCAR at Atlanta: Brad Keselowski wins after pit road mishap costs Kevin Harvick – Sporting News

Kevin Harvick dominated the first two segments of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday, but a late speeding penalty against the No. 4 team allowed Brad Keselowski to swoop in for the checkered flag.

Keselowski passed Kyle Larson for the lead with six laps to go for his first win of 2017.

Harvick’s critical error came when the field pitted on Lap 311 of 325. The pole sitter was docked for speeding and had to restart at the tail of the field with 12 laps left, when Kyle Larson took over as race leader.

Larson, Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne and Chase Elliott rounded out the top five.

Harvick, who finished ninth, had not won at Atlanta since his rookie season in 2001 despite leading 442 total laps there in the past three seasons. He won the first two 85-lap segments of the race and led a race-high 293 laps before the speeding infraction cost him the win.
