Things got a little heated during the NASCAR Cup Series race this weekend. It was the first of three races in the playoffs Round of 8, with the winning driver – Kyle Busch in this case – automatically advancing to the final four.
With three laps left in the First Data 500, Denny Hamlin wrecked then-race leader Chase Elliott – both drivers are in the playoffs – and the two heatedly argued after it was over. Hamlin apologized and took responsibility for knocking Elliott out of contention, maintaining he didn’t do it on purpose.
But there was something odd about Hamlin’s apology note, particularly with the numbers in the very first sentence. And fellow driver Landon Cassill noticed it right away and had some fun with it.
That’s right: Cassill brilliantly trolled Hamlin’s apology with math. The No. 11 Toyota driver is 36 (soon-to-be 37 next month), and for him to have run 10,000 races since he was seven means he’s averaging nearly 345 races per year, which is pretty much impossible.
Hats off to Cassill for his second excellent Twitter joke about another driver in as many weeks. And also for being one of the only people to notice this egregious math error.
People obviously loved his response.
