Another Sprint Cup Series race weekend, another plethora of warnings for issues in inspection.
NASCAR confirmed to FOXSports.com late Wednesday that the teams of Jimmie Johnson, Danica Patrick, Sam Hornish Jr. and David Gilliland each received a written warning from NASCAR for issues in inspection last weekend at Pocono Raceway.
In the case of Patrick and Gilliland, their cars had trouble passing pre-qualifying inspection — resulting in the warnings, respectively, and a loss of 15 minutes of practice time for Patrick this weekend at Michigan International Speedway.
The teams of Johnson and Hornish, meanwhile, received their respective warnings for issues in pre-race inspection. Johnson, whose No. 48 car flunked pre-race inspection three times on Sunday morning, as already reported by FOXSports.com, will lose 15 minutes of practice time at Michigan, just as Patrick will.
On Tuesday, NASCAR’s P1 level penalty against Johnson and his No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports team for warnings during last month’s back-to-back weekends at Charlotte Motor Speedway was overturned following a meeting of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel.
As a result of the decision by the three-member panel, the six-time Sprint Cup Series champion won’t be forced to receive the last choice in the pit selection process, respective to qualifying results, for Sunday’s Quicken Loans 400 at Michigan.
