F is for friends who do stuff together;
U is for you and me;
N is for anywhere and anytime at all down at the…Kansas Speedway in Kansas City.
Later today, the 1.5-mile track will host the SpongeBob Squarepants 400, a NASCAR Sprint Cup event. In collaboration with Nickelodeon, six drivers will drive vehicles featuring Spongebob-specific paint jobs—well, five in today’s race, with one truck competing yesterday. The titular sponge, his best friend Patrick Star, cranky neighbor Squidward, and frequent Krusty Krab nemesis Plankton will all get their own cars. (But seriously—no Sandy? No Pearl? No Mr. Krabs? Quite the missed opportunities.) Though the event is a little late for the theatrical release of the film sequel The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water, we’re guessing it’s timed to the film’s home video release (the movie becomes available on demand May 15 and on Blu-ray June 2). We still don’t quite understand why a children’s entertainment network is sponsoring a NASCAR event in Kansas, but we’re hoping that some photos of the cars will help everything make a bit more sense.
