Nashville is getting is first chance to play host to the annual NHL All-Star Game and the city is going to do everything possible to show some southern hospitality to the rough and speedy sport! The players will have celebrity country music coaches alongside their actual All-Star staff, and the format of the big game is also getting a big makeover. The All-Star game will feature a new format this time around, where they will take part in a three-game tournament, played in a 3-on-3 format, and featuring teams representing each NHL division. Florida Panthers right winger Jaromir Jagr will serve as Captain for the Atlantic Division while the Chicago Blackhawks’ Patrick Kane will do the honors for the Central Division. New York Islanders center John Tavares will lead the Metropolitan Division and finally John Scott of the Montreal Canadiens will captain the Pacific Division, which caused a lot of controversy because after voting started, Arizona traded him to Montreal and he is now at the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate in Newfoundland, so he’s not even an active NHL player at the moment! The game will get a taste of country music’s finest as 20 time Grammy winner and Predators season ticket holder Vince Gill will sing the “Star-Spangled Banner” and also will serve as a celebrity coach for the game, alongside fellow NHL fans and country music stars Dierks Bentley, Lady Antebellum‘s Charles Kelley and Chris Young. They’ll join the actual NHL All-Star game head coaches Gerard Gallant of the Florida Panthers, Lindy Ruff of the Dallas Stars, Darryl Sutter of the Los Angeles Kings and Barry Trotz of the Washington Capitals behind the bench.
