A local soccer coach was arrested Monday after allegedly showing nude pictures of himself to one of his female athletes during a practice in October, police said.

Marcelo Gomez, 50, a freelance soccer instructor, has been charged with display of harmful material to a minor, a class A misdemeanor, according to an arrest affidavit.

Gomez was coaching at least three girls at the time of the incident, including the 17-year old to whom he showed the nude photos, the document states. It said Gomez’s advances towards the girl escalated over a two-day period, starting Oct. 5 with an exchange after practice.

As the two took soccer equipment back to Gomez’s van, Gomez asked her if she had a boyfriend and showed her nude pictures of a woman, the affidavit states. He asked the girl if she wanted to touch his genitals, but she left the location, the document states.

The girl returned to another practice session with Gomez and two other athletes the next day, and Gomez showed her another nude photo, of himself, on his cell phone, according to the affidavit. The girl eventually reported it to police Nov. 2, stating she was “offended and alarmed” by Gomez’s actions and the pictures.
