Quinnipiac Men’s Ice Hockey Places Six On All-ECAC Hockey Teams – Quinnipiac Bobcats
LAKE PLACID, New York – The Quinnipiac men’s ice hockey had six student-athletes earn All-ECAC Hockey honors, as announced by the league on Friday, Mar. 18. Junior Sam Anas (Potomac, Maryland) headlines the list of honorees with a First Team selection, while Tim Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey), Travis St. Denis (Trail, British Columbia) and Devon Toews (Abbotsford, British Columbia) were named to the Second Team. Michael Garteig (Prince George, British Columbia) was named to the second team while Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) was named to the All-Rookie team.
Anas earns his third All-ECAC Hockey honor in three years, and his first First Team after being named to the Second Team in each of his first two years. Anas led Quinnipiac in goals (22), assists (24) and points (46), while his point total also leads ECAC Hockey. Anas was one of two players in ECAC Hockey to total 20 goals and 20 assists and also registered a league-leading 22 power-play points. In addition, Anas led the league in goals on the road (11), goals when trailing (9), game-tying goals (2), extra-attacker goals (2) and also registered a point in a league-best 18 league games. In a 16-game point streak from Dec. 12 through Feb. 26, Anas scored 12 goals and assists on 15 more. For his career, Anas had 67 goals and 61 assists for 128 points in 117 career games.
St. Denis earned his first All-ECAC Hockey honor after an incredible season that saw the senior assistant captain reach career-highs in goals (20), assists (22) and points (42) while also tying Anas for the team-leading nine power play goals. St. Denis’ 42 points ranked third among all ECAC Hockey skaters while also ranking fifth in assists (22) and third in goals scored (20). St. Denis posted three separate point streaks of six-or-more games , highlighted most recently by an eight game streak from Jan. 29 through Feb. 26 when he scored six goals and assisted on four more. This season, he became the 11th player in Quinnipiac’s Division I history to scored 50 career goals, and the fourth to scored 15 goals in three consecutive seasons.
Clifton’s Second Team selection is also the first of his three-year career at Quinnipiac. The Bobcats’ junior entered the season with 12 goals and 15 assists in 77 career games before scoring 17 goals and assisting on 20 more in 33 games this season. Clifton was tied for fifth in ECAC Hockey in goals and tied for fourth in points, while leading the league in plus/minus (+25), which also ranked 15th among all NCAA Division I student-athletes. His eight power play goals trail Anas and St. Denis for the league lead. In 22 ECAC Hockey games, Clifton ranked second in goals (14), assists (15) and points (29) while leading the league in power play goals (6), power play points (11), game-winning goals (4), shorthanded goals (2) and plus/minus (+22).
Toews also earns his first career postseason honor after establishing himself as one of the elite defensemen in ECAC Hockey. In 32 games this season, Toews led all ECAC Hockey defensemen in points per game (0.79), power play assists (12), power play points (13) and plus/minus (+22), registering as the only league defensemen with a plus/minus of +20 or higher. In ECAC Hockey games only, his 14 assists lead all ECAC Hockey d-men, while he also leads the league’s defensemen in assists per game (0.70), points per game (0.95), power play assists (7), power play points (7) and plus/minus (+21). Toews also reached career highs in goals (7), assists (20) and points (27). He also posted nine multiple-point games, the most among all league defensemen.
Garteig earned his second consecutive ECAC Hockey Third Team honor. Garteig was 27-3-7 with a 1.94 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage. In 22 ECAC Hockey games, Garteig is 16-1-5 with a 1.97 GAA and a .920 save percentage. For the year, Garteig is 15-2-4 in 21 home games this season with a 1.61 goals-against average and a .937 save percentage with five shutouts. His 15 home wins lead all NCAA Division I goalies. In 15 non-conference games, Garteig is 11-2-2 with a 1.91 GAA and a .923 save percentage, while his 11 wins are tied for the most among all NCAA Division I goalies. For his career, Garteig is 73-24-16 with a 1.97 GAA and a .916 save percentage in 6,902:17 in 118 career games. His 18 career shutouts rank fourth in NCAA Division I hockey history, all-time. Only three goalies in NCAA history – Ryan Miller (26), Joe Fallon (20) and Ben Scrivens (19) – have recorded 19 or more shutouts. His 73 career wins are 22nd in NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey history; only 24 goalies have reached 70 career wins, all-time.
Priskie had an impressive first season with the Bobcats, totaling 22 assists to go along with four goals for 26 points. Priskie led all ECAC Hockey defensemen with 22 assists, and was one of seven players in ECAC Hockey to record 20 assists for the season. Priskie lead all ECAC Hockey freshmen in assists (22), power play assists (9) and power play points (10), while ranking third among the league’s defensemen in plus/minus (+18). His power play assists and points ranked second among all defensemen as he became the first Quinnipiac freshman defenseman to record 20 assists in a season since Matt Sorteberg in 2004-05.
