Rain cancels NASCAR All-Star Race qualifying, Kevin Harvick on pole – SB Nation

The starting lineup for NASCAR’s All-Star Race was set per the rulebook after an early evening thunderstorm forced the cancelation of qualifying Saturday at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Owners’ points aligned the 20-driver field, which gives Kevin Harvick the pole and defending Sprint Cup champion Kyle Busch the second position. Kurt Busch, Kyle’s older brother and Harvick’s Stewart-Haas Racing teammate, starts third alongside Carl Edwards. Jimmie Johnson, a four-time All-Star Race winner, completes the top five.

Qualifying for the All-Star Race is unique to the non-points event, as each driver is required to make three laps and a four-tire pit stop that entails coming down pit road at-speed.

Inclement weather has been an issue throughout the weekend. Rain forced NASCAR to reschedule the Sprint Showdown — an All-Star Race qualifying event — and the Camping World Truck Series race from Friday night to Saturday afternoon.

The All-Star Race remains scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m. ET.
