Rain forces NASCAR to postpone Charlotte race to Sunday – SB Nation

NASCAR’s annual fall Saturday night Sprint Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway will now be a Sunday afternoon affair, as unrelenting rain forced the rescheduling of the Bank of America 500.

The first Round 2 race of the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship playoff will start at 12:30 p.m. ET. NBC Sports Network will provide television coverage.

Matt Kenseth will lead the field to the green flag, having captured the No. 1 starting spot in qualifying Thursday. The pole was Kenseth’s personal-best fourth of the season. He will share the front row with Kyle Busch, a teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing. Joey Logano, Greg Biffle and Denny Hamlin complete the top-five starters.

Charlotte is the fifth race of the season to be hampered by Mother Nature. Bristol (April), Richmond (April), Kansas (May) and Daytona (July) either incurred significant delays or postponements to the following day due to rain. Heavy thunderstorms forced officials to call the June Michigan race 62 laps short of the scheduled 200-lap distance.
