Rogers Hometown Hockey: Wolfville, Nova Scotia – NHL.com

NHL Network and Sportsnet 1 will televise “Rogers Hometown Hockey” on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. ET, prior to the game between the Florida Panthers and the Detroit Red Wings. The location this week is Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and the show will celebrate the history of hockey in the city.

Among the features airing on the pregame show:

* Florida Panthers coach Gerard Gallant played in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning and discusses getting selected in the sixth round (No. 170) of the 1981 NHL Draft, and not being present because he thought the draft was the following day.

* A native of Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Gallant talks about coaching in the Maritime Hockey community including one of his former players Jonathan Huberdeau, who he coached with Saint John’s. Gallant is now Huberdeau’s coach in Florida.

* Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Johnston grew up in Nova Scotia, went to school in Wolfville and played hockey at Acadia. He also coaches Nova Scotia native Sidney Crosby in the NHL.

* A visit to Blomidon National Park in Nova Scotia with a history lesson on the Mi’kmaq culture.
