On Friday, a former coach for the youth soccer club C.D. Independiente was sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy. Three days later, the current head coach of the very same team was arrested by Dallas police and charged with a single count of indecency with a child, and detectives say they believe more charges will be filed in coming days.

Rolando Ramos, 47, was arrested Monday by detectives in the Dallas PD’s Child Exploitation Unit, who say they began investigating Ramos “after receiving allegations from three different past players who were coached by Suspect Ramos when they played for C. D. Independiente.” Police say the assaults occurred between 2006 and 2012, and that all the victims were juveniles at the time. Ramos, of Dallas, was arrested for a single incident that allegedly took place when the soccer player was 14 years old.

“We anticipate additional charges will be filed on Suspect Ramos as the investigation continues,” police said Tuesday morning.

Four years ago, C.D. Independiente coach Jaime Alvarenga was arrested at a Super 8 motel on LBJ Freeway, where Alvarenga had taken a 15-year-old boy to assault him. The boy saw police, according to police documents, and “made an outcry.” Alvarenga was sentenced Friday — 15 years in prison, and a $5 fine. As our Sarah Mervosh reported last week, State District Judge Brandon Birmingham assessed the fine as a symbolic gesture: The victim wore the number on his jersey.

Ramos is now in Dallas County jail, where he’s being held on a $2,500 bond. Police are asking anyone who knows of additional victims to call Detective Clark in Child Expolitation at 214 671-4301.
