Sports mailbag: Another NASCAR race, another reason to stop watching – Roanoke Times
Hey, congrats to NASCAR for keeping their promise to Kyle Busch and Toyota.
I was skeptical, but when Kyle won last night’s race I knew NASCAR really came through for him. Toyota has to be overjoyed as well.
Finishing 1, 2, 3 and 4. Wow! That ‘special package’ NASCAR is allowing Toyotas to have is really paying off, especially to big wigs of NASCAR who are receiving all that great kickback money! Way to go guys.
And Bristol … what a track.
There used to be actual racing at Bristol. All that beating and banging and passing and stuff. Not any more. Bristol really took care of that problem. We can’t let those expensive cars get too mangled up. The owners would really be upset then.
Hey, I’ve got an idea. NASCAR should mandate that Toyota is the ONLY car approved for races — kind of like those all Camaro races a few years ago. That’d be something for sure.
One thing I do know is I really understand why most races have all those empty seats. Indianapolis looked like a ghost track as well as some other tracks across the country.
Between the infamous ‘Car of Tomorrow’ and the ‘special’ Toyota package, NASCAR just isn’t the same anymore. It won’t be long before the TV networks drop coverage, again.
Oh well, such is life in the fast lane.

Kudos and prayerful thanksgiving for all who had a part in the production and publishing of that wonderful photograph of the Universiy of Virginia football squad on Page 1 of The Roanoke Times sports section (Thursday, Aug. 17), and for Aaron McFarling’s powerful article accompanying it.
That is the most encouraging news that has appeared in your paper in a very long time!
