KANSAS CITY, KAN. — The STANFORD men claimed the second NCAA team title for the Conference of the 2015-16 campaign and the first soccer title in program history, winning the championship on Sunday, 4-0 over Clemson. Pac-12 institutions have won 480 all-time national team championships across all sports to lead the country.

STANFORD, the 2015 Pac-12 champion, claimed its first NCAA crown in men’s soccer, defeating No. 2-seed Clemson, 4-0. The Cardinal’s (18-2-3) title is the fifth national championship won by Pac-12 teams in the sport of men’s soccer and the first since 2002. 

The Cardinal scored two minutes into the match with Jordan Morris finding the back of the net via Corey Baird and Eric Verso. The goal was Stanford’s fastest score of the season. Morris, the 2015 Pac-12 Men’s Soccer Player of the Year opened up the second half with a second score in the 51st minute, with Foster Langsdorf and Baird on the assist. Morris finished the night with a brace on two shots on goal.

Defender Brandon Vincent buried a penalty kick in the 71st minute. Three minutes later, Verso scored a goal of his own to give the Cardinal a 4-0 win. Stanford’s 4-0 victory is the first multiple-goal shutout in Championship history since 2001 and ties for the largest score differential in the title game since 1969.

The Pac-12 is now 5-7-0 all-time in the NCAA championship game. Stanford, led by its pair of two-time NSCAA First Team All-Americans Morris and Vincent, won its first men’s soccer crown in three appearances in the title match.

Stanford was the No. 8 seed in the field of 48. The Cardinal also ousted Santa Clara in the second round, ninth-seeded Ohio State in the third round and top-seeded Wake Forest in the quarterfinals on its road to the College Cup. Stanford topped fourth-seeded Akron, 0-0 (8-7 PKs) en route to the championship match.
