Fitness-tracking app Strava is introducing some new perks for subscribers of its Premium membership option, which go on top of the additional in-app features the service already provides. Chief among the new perks is an offer for accidental damage coverage to phones or GPS devices through Sunday’s Insurance. The coverage is good as long as you broke your phone while recording a cycling activity with Strava.
The insurance is for members in the US, UK, and Australia, and it offers customers free accidental damage coverage up to $600 for cycling accidents. There are some pretty tough criteria to qualify for the claim, though: Sunday’s Insurance defines it as “a bicycle impact or crash in which your bicycle is sufficiently damaged to be non-functioning without repairs and/or you need medical treatment,” which is a pretty serious definition. There’s also an $85 deductible that customers will have to pay in the event they do qualify. Still, even with all the potential caveats, assuming you can qualify for the insurance, it seems like a nice deal — especially if you’re already paying for Strava’s service anyway.
Along with the device damage, the Sunday’s Insurance perks also offers coverage for taking a cab home if your bike breaks down mid-exercise, as well as for race fees should you injure yourself after signing up. Strava is also offering a few other perks along with the Sunday’s Insurance offers, although those tend to fall on the more mundane side of the spectrum, with offers like 20 percent off a $100 New Balance order, or a two-month Audible trial. The company says more perks will be added “regularly,” so it’s likely we’ll continue to see new offers like these come to the Premium membership.
