TLC concert forces pro soccer game to be played in ridiculously tiny field – CBS sports.com (blog)

The quality of a soccer field is so important. From the length of the grass to even the type, it makes a difference as to how the ball rolls and how you should play it. But what about when the field is nowhere near the size it needs to be?

A normal soccer field is between 110-120 yards long and 70-80 yards wide. However, during an NWSL match on Saturday night, the Western New York Flash played the Seattle Reign at Frontier Field in Rochester, New York, with the field measuring 100 yards long and 58 yards wide. Take a look.

The Triple-A baseball stadium was preparing for a TLC concert (yes, TLC), so some smart people decided to go ahead with the field that wouldn’t be fit for 12-year-olds to play on, let alone pro athletes. You can watch the replay of the entire match played in this makeshift field here:

As you can imagine, USWNT stars didn’t like it, including Alex Morgan.

Don’t go chasing soccer balls. There’s just no room.

Oh, and the league realized that … after the fact.

What a disaster.
