Trump’s latest campaign: Candidate featured in Mexican soccer ad – CNN International

(CNN)Here’s one campaign Donald Trump likely didn’t foresee when he decided to run for President.

A new ad from a Mexican television station featuring Trump’s controversial remarks on immigrants is being used to rally the men’s Mexican national soccer team to victory over the U.S. next month in California.

The commercial from Mexican TV Azteca opens with the American flag flowing in wind, while Jimi Hendrix’s rendition of “Star Spangled Banner” plays in the background.

The spot then turns to Trump at his presidential announcement, saying, “When Mexico sends it’s people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you.”

Then the video cuts to footage of the Mexican soccer players, showing them as they play on the field and pose for photos at press conferences.

“Our country is in serious trouble,” Trump says in the commercial, cutting to footage of the Mexican soccer team players scoring at the USA team on the field.

“We don’t have victories anymore,” he continues, cutting to more footage of Mexicans cheering in soccer field stands as their team wins.

As the video ends, Trump says, “The American dream is dead,” which repeats again in a slowed down version for emphasis.

The playoff match, where the winner will qualify for the 2017 Confederations Cup in Russia, will be held in Pasadena at the Rose Bowl Stadium on Oct. 10.
