UK Anti-Doping statement on cycling likely to clear Team Sky of wrongdoing – Telegraph.co.uk

UK Anti-Doping is expected to release a statement soon concerning its investigation into “allegations of wrongdoing in cycling”.

Anti-doping officers have been investigating the transportation of a Jiffy bag by a British Cycling team member out to the Team Sky bus in France on the final day of the 2011 Criterium du Dauphine. The race had just been won by Sir Bradley Wiggins.

The investigation has been slow going, partly because of data protection laws which have meant British Cycling has had to be very careful about what data it can release. But some sort of statement is expected either next week or two.

It is not thought that anyone will be charged, although British Cycling and Team Sky are expected to be criticised for their lack of records and accountability.

Simon Cope, the British Cycling employee who flew out with the package to Geneva and who now runs Wiggins’ trade team, has said he did not know what he was carrying. The package was prepared for him another British Cycling staff member. Team Sky have not said publicly what was in the package.
