It’s finally here.

The Arizona Sports Awards, presented by Valley Chevy Dealers, begins at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Orpheum Theatre in downtown Phoenix. The night will celebrate the best in Arizona high school sports, from the student-athletes who compete at the highest level to those who propel their success.

For the past year, The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com have honored athletes each week, month and at the end of each sport’s season. Those athletes will get a final hurrah for their efforts in 2015-16, with a red-carpet event and chance to walk the stage at the Orpheum to receive a trophy and public recognition.

Whether you’re joining us downtown or watching the action from home, here is how you can help us honor these deserving athletes, coaches and behind-the-scenes supporters.

At the event

Tickets are still available to purchase at sportsawards.azcentral.com.

If you’re attending the event, plan to leave enough time to arrive in downtown Phoenix. There are several events happening downtown this weekend, so please allow extra time to find parking.

There is not designated parking for the Orpheum, but there are several paid lots in downtown. If you need extra help getting to the venue, there is a small drop-off location across from the Orpheum.

The box office will be open to purchase tickets, and the registration table for will call tickets will open around 5:45 p.m. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. with a reception in the lobby areas of the Orpheum.

Red carpet

There will be a red carpet as guests enter the Orpheum with an opportunity for photos and a livestream show, hosted by azcentral’s Melissa Farley. For those not in attendance, the show can be viewed on azcentral.com, starting at 6:15 p.m.

Special guests will drop by the red carpet for interviews and more.

Awards presentation

The awards show will be in two parts. The first half will feature the Players of the Year in each sport and a Q&A with quarterback Carson Palmer.

Then, the 13 at-large awards will be honored and the winners in each category will be announced live, including the first-ever Female and Male Athletes of the Year, presented by La-Z-Boy Furniture Galleries.

You can view this portion of the show on azcentral.com and follow along via azcentral social media accounts using the hashtag #ArizonaSportsAwards.

After the event

Photos, videos and a list of the winners will be on azcentral.com and in Monday’s The Arizona Republic.

We will also publish a commemorative section from the Arizona Sports Awards and the 2015-16 high school sports season in the June 12 Republic.

Nominations for Athletes of the Week, High Achievers of the Week and all of the at-large awards for the 2016-17 season will begin in August at nominations.azcentral.com.

Questions, compliments and feedback on the Arizona Sports Awards can be sent to azcentral high school sports editor Johanna Huybers at johanna.huybers@arizonarepublic.com or 602-444-8669.
