As Colin Cowherd Comes to FOX Sports, You’ll Be Seeing And Hearing Him A Lot More – Forbes

In what was largely anticipated, today it was announced that radio and television personality Colin Cowherd would be coming to FOX Sports.

The former Walt Disney-owned ESPN personality, who began there with his nationally syndicated radio show, and then later into ESPN’s television programming, will be a key addition for FOX Sports.

Like him or not, you’re going to be seeing and hearing a lot more of Cowherd. According to FOX Sports, Cowherd will host a three-hour sports talk program titled THE HERD beginning Tuesday, Sept. 8 airing simultaneously on FOX Sports 1 and the FOX Sports Radio Network, including AM 570 LA Sports/KLAC, weekdays from 12:00 to 3:00 PM ET.

But where Cowherd will likely grow his presence larger still will be through television.

When FOX announced that they were carving out additional NFL pre-game programming, many saw it is a place where Cowherd might land, and indeed, that’s the case.

On top of the FOX Sports 1/FSRN simulcast, Cowherd also becomes a key member of the FOX NFL KICKOFF cast, a show which moves from FOX Sports 1 to FOX, airing Sundays at 11:00 AM ET preceding FOX NFL SUNDAY.  The show’s full roster is expected to be unveiled in the days ahead.  According to FOX Sports, Cowherd will  also part of the team contributing to FOX Sports 1’s coverage of Jim Harbaugh’s debut as Michigan head coach when Utah hosts the Wolverines in both teams’ season-opener on Thursday, Sept. 3.

“Colin is the first person I hired for my first daily studio show at ESPN, so it’s fitting that he’s the first one I’m hiring at FS1,” said Jamie Horowitz, President, FOX Sports National Networks, who chose Cowherd as the original co-host of SportsNation in July 2009.  “Colin is a unique voice in sports media with a loyal following of fans, and we’re looking forward to building our daytime programming around him.”

For those wondering about how Cowherd will translate to television, this author saw him and listened to him at his last local gig in Portland, OR as part of the news team at KGW-TV and mornings on ESPN 1080 The Fan. He was seen more as a television personality when he went to radio, so his ability to work in front of a camera will be a smooth transition.
