Baker Mayfield says he’ll forgo NFL, return to Oklahoma next season – Sports Illustrated

On the heels of leading the Sooners to a Big 12 title over Oklahoma State, Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield told reporters he’ll return to school in 2017.

Oklahoma won the annual Bedlam Game 38–20, with Mayfield throwing for 288 yards and three touchdowns for the No. 9 Sooners. The junior will skip his potential NFL career for one more season.

After transferring from Texas Tech following the 2013 season, Mayfield has thrown for 71 touchdowns to just 15 interceptions in two seasons as Oklahoma’s starting quarterback.

The Sooners have gone 21–4 the last two years with Mayfield at the helm, including a berth in last year’s College Football Playoff.
