The public will decide which of the 16 nominees will be named 2016’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year tonight in a live ceremony at Birmingham’s Genting Arena.

Andy Murray is the hot favourite for the big award, but will need the public’s vote to win his third SPOTY after an incredible year on the court which climaxed with him finishing as world No.1.

The other contenders are boxer Nicola Adams, Gareth Bale, Alistair Brownlee, Sophie Christiansen, Kadeena Cox, Mo Farah, Jason Kenny, Laura Kenny, Andy Murray, Adam Peaty, Kate Richardson-Walsh, Nick Skelton, Dame Sarah Storey, Jamie Vardy, Max Whitlock and Danny Willett.

Other awards to be announced include Team of the Year, Coach of the Year and Young Sports Personality of the Year.
