CBS Sports 128: Iowa, Oklahoma in top four after Week 12 shake up – CBSSports.com
New CBS Sports 128: 1-25 | 26-128
Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Houston all lost for the first time this season, leaving us with just two undefeated teams in college football: Clemson and Iowa.
The Tigers are still at No. 1 in the CBS Sports 128 after a Senior Day win against Wake Forest where the most stressful moment was whether offensive lineman Daniel Stone’s then-girlfriend, now-fiance would say “yes” after a pregame proposal (she did).
Iowa moves up to No. 3, just as it did in the polls on Sunday, trailing No. 2 Alabama and the Tigers after beating Purdue to improve to 11-0 and clinch the Big Ten West. The Hawkeyes have a spot in the Big Ten title game clinched, but to reach the playoff they’ll need one more win — Friday afternoon at Nebraska.
Previously undefeated Ohio State falls from No. 3 to No. 8 after losing to Michigan State on a last-second field goal that moves the Spartans up to No. 6. Oklahoma is ranked two spots higher after holding off a late charge from TCU, jumping over Notre Dame for the No. 4 spot.
Oklahoma State, though undefeated, was only ranked at No. 7 last week in the CBS Sports 128 and won’t fall far, now checking in at No. 9 after the home loss to Baylor.
Mississippi State, Temple and Toledo are back in the top 25, while Washington State is making its debut at No. 25. Houston’s slide to No. 18 makes Navy the highest-ranked Group of Five team in our rankings, though that argument will get sorted out on the field with the Cougars and Midshipmen play this weekend.
Here’s a breakdown how each conference fares in the new top 25 of the CBS Sports 128 (highest-ranked team in parenthesis):
Big Ten: 5 (No. 3 — Iowa)
SEC: 4 (No. 2 — Alabama)
Big 12: 4 (No. 5 — Oklahoma)
Pac-12: 4 (No. 13 — Stanford)
ACC: 3 (No. 1 — Clemson)
American: 3 (No. 15 — Navy)
Independent: 1 (No. 4 — Notre Dame)
MAC: 1 (No. 24 — Toledo)
