Cleveland Sports Awards this week: Cast your (unofficial) vote for best athletes – cleveland.com

CLEVELAND, Ohio — In 2015, Cleveland sports had its share of moments. There were highs (the Cavaliers run in the NBA Finals), lows (the Browns’ drama-filled 3-13 season) and almosts (Ohio State’s one-loss season, the Indians’ flirtation with the playoffs).

While the teams we love to follow the most didn’t bring home a major championship last year, several Northeast Ohio-area athletes delivered individual performances that made 2015 a year to remember.

Those “best of the best” will be honored Thursday at the 16th Cleveland Sports Awards. The annual event, held at the Renaissance Cleveland Hotel, raises money for the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission, which works to attract major sporting events to the area. Cleveland native and former Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will serve as host.

Awards will be handed out for the athlete of the year in professional, collegiate, amateur and high school sports.

While the winners have already been selected and will be revealed during Thursday’s ceremony, we want to give cleveland.com readers a just-for-fun chance to vote on who they think are most deserving of the awards.

Select your choice from the sports commission’s list of nominees and then come back to cleveland.com/sports on Friday to see how your votes compare with the actual winners.
