Oregon and UCLA are the biggest spenders among West Coast public universities when it comes to NCAA athletics, according to a database complied for a USA Today report on the financial state of college sports.
The University of Oregon‘s sports program was the top spending and top earning public school among schools in the West in 2015-16, according to the newspaper’s full database. But the Ducks -which spent $110,202,688 in 2015-16 while earning $111,701,175 – ranked 20th for money spent on its sports program, well behind several SEC, Big-12 and Big-10 Conference schools.
University of Washington reported the second highest total among Pac-12 schools. The Huskies ranked 21st in the nation in terms of expenses and 25th in revenue. They spent $109,560,972 while making $107,154,560 in 2015-16.
The former of home Lonzo Ball, UCLA, was ranked third among schools in the West (29th overall) in terms of revenue, reporting exactly the same figure of $98,913,023 for both spending and revenue, according to the report.
U.C. Berkeley was the lone Northern California school in the top 50 for spending (see West Coast schools that made the top 100 in the slideshow above).

Cal reportedly made $81,653,024 while spending $103,381,770 in 2015-16. The disparity between its revenue and expenses is reflected in its ranking among all NCAA schools – while the school didn’t crack the top 40 in revenue, it was 26th in terms in expenses.
Texas A&M and Texas were the top overall spenders, according to the report, with spending totals north of $187 million.
