Next up: Bobby Knight.
The long line of celebrities from the sports world to endorse or support Donald Trump’s campaign for President of the United States of America has a new member to add.
First, ex-Yankees like Paul O’Neill and Johnny Damon made their opinions known. Then Jets center Nick Mangold introduced Trump at a rally. When the Ohio primary took place, an even more infamous ex-baseball star has joined Team Trump: All-time hit king, Pete Rose. On the eve of Ohio’s primary, Trump tweeted out a signed baseball from Rose that made his affiliation and request clear: Make America great again.
Now, according to TMZ, Knight—the usually great, always polarizing and often brash—former hoops leader, will join Trump at a rally in Indiana on Wednesday.
Sports celebs supporting Trump
With a week to go before Indiana’s primary, Trump is doing what he’s been doing best this campaign season: Drum up interest, support and headlines. Adding Knight to the mix adds to that in Indiana and across the sports world.
As the primary season continues, don’t be surprised if more and more athletic celebrities come flocking to Trump’s support—especially if a nomination for the Republican candidacy comes more and more into focus. Athletes tend to gravitate toward winners, and Trump might represent that when it comes to a nod from the Republican party this summer.
After retiring from coaching, Knight served as an analyst for ESPN from 2008-2015.
