For a man known as “Beast Mode,” news of Marshawn Lynch‘s retirement was quite the understatement.
Amidst the Super Bowl 50 hype in February, the star running back for the Seattle Seahawks tweeted a photo of a pair of cleats hanging on a line and an emoji of a peace sign, and that was all.

Since then, Lynch has spoken little about life after football, where he dominated defenses with an aggressive running style, and made a name off the field for his uncompromising way of speaking and doing things.
Now, in an interview with 60 Minutes Sports that airs Tuesday, June 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on SHOWTIME, Lynch talks about stepping away from the game.
“I’m retired. Is that good enough? Which camera do you want me to look into? This one? I’m done. I’m not playing football anymore.”
When correspondent Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated asked Lynch to confirm whether or not he was staying away from a game that would love to have him back, especially his hometown Oakland Raiders, the former running back did not hesitate in his reply.
“No, I’m done. I’m done. I enjoyed my time playing. Now it’s time to watch my cousins do they thing,” Lynch said.
Lynch’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, said with Marshawn he’ll never say never and “selfishly, yeah, I’d love for him to play another year or two and make sure he’s cemented in the Hall of Fame.”
Still not convinced, Wertheim pressed Lynch on the subject one more time.
“I’m retired. Is that good enough? Which camera do you want me to look into? This one? I’m done. I’m not playing football anymore.”
